There is no doubt whatsoever that Ballack can easily be named in the Greatest of footballers ever to play for Germany. The German International has won 5 league titles and several domestic titles playing for Bayern Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea.

It is the European championships which seem to elude him every time he went near it. 2002-03 season can undoubtedly be branded as the worst season of his life. Leverkusen was galloping towards a treble consisting of DFB pokal cup, the league title, and the prestigious UCL. Things turned sour as Borussia clinched the league, Schalke winning the cup and Zidane’s wondrous left footed volley sealing another Real Madrid UCL trophy.

Just when he thought things can get better; the 2002 World Cup saw Germany shockingly losing out to the magnificent Selecaos 2-0 in the final where his compatriot Kahn made a ghastly mistake giving Brazil an early lead.

The Euro championship saw him won the 3rd place and with Chelsea, he could only receive other runners-up medal years later.
